The Melbourne Cricket Club is a cricket club based in Kingston, Jamaica. It was established on May 3, 1892, to provide a club for men of "modest means." It is the third cricket club established in Kingston. Unlike others of its kind in this country, Melbourne, down the generations, has shown an admirable ability to nimbly change with the times while serving the interests of cricket and community. Throughout its history, the Melbourne Cricket Club has been one of the strongest clubs in Jamaica. The club has produced 13 cricketers who have represented the West Indies and another 27 players who have represented Jamaica. Some notable cricketers from Melbourne Cricket Club who have represented the West Indies include Michael Holding, Courtney Walsh, Marlon Samuels, and Carlton Baugh. The club has also had significant success in the Kingston competition, known as the Senior Cup, winning it multiple times over the years. The Melbourne Cricket Club in Jamaica has a rich history of notable achievements.
Here are some highlights:
In more recent years, under the dynamic leadership of former Jamaica and Kingston College cricketer Mr. Mark Neita, Melbourne Cricket Club has reached out to worthy causes through an annual 5K charity event, benefiting Special Olympics Jamaica and Sickle Cell Unit of the University Hospital of the West Indies. Hosting summer camps and academy programs in an effort to keep children playing cricket. Our women's cricket team winning the Jamaica Cricket Association 2024 Women's Cricket League competition.
"Job well done Melbourne, let's continue to keep up the good work.”
